Giving someone access to your ad accounts is a common, safe practice — as long as it’s done through the platforms’ official tools. This guide walks you through the exact steps for Google Ads and Facebook (Meta) Ads so you can confidently grant, review, and revoke access when needed.
Before you begin — quick rules of thumb
Never share passwords. Always grant access through the platform’s built-in user or partner tools.
Use business emails. Grant access to business email addresses (not personal Gmail/Facebook accounts) when possible.
Apply least privilege. Give the minimum role required (e.g., Advertiser vs Admin).
Enable 2-step verification. Require 2FA on any accounts that have admin access.
Document and audit. Keep a short log of who has what access and review it periodically.
Part A — Google Ads (steps to grant access)
There are two common methods to allow someone to manage your Google Ads account:
Option 1 (recommended): Approve a manager account (MCC/Manager Link). Best for agencies.
Option 2: Invite a specified Google account (individual user). Best for team members or single contractors.
Step 0 — Find your Google Ads Customer ID
Sign in to Google Ads (ads.google.com).
Your 10-digit Customer ID is visible at the top right of the screen (format: 123-456-7890). This is used only if someone will request a manager link.
Option 1 — Approve a manager account request (recommended for agencies)
Ask the agency/partner to send you a manager account link request. They will use their Manager (MCC) account to send this.
Sign in to Google Ads.
Click Tools & settings (wrench icon).
Under Setup, choose Access and security.
Open the Managers tab (or look for “Link requests”).
Locate the pending request and click Accept (or Approve).
Confirm the access level or notes if prompted.
Notes:
Accepting a manager link does not transfer ownership or billing. It simply permits the manager account to request access to manage campaigns.
You can remove the manager at any time from the same Access and security area.
Option 2 — Invite an individual user by email
Sign in to Google Ads.
Click Tools & settings → Access and security.
In the Users tab, click the + (Invite new user).
Enter the user’s email address (must be a Google account).
Select a role:
Admin — full control, including user management (use sparingly).
Standard — create and edit campaigns (typical for campaign managers).
Read-only — view only.
Email-only — receives reports by email.
Click Send invitation. The invitee accepts via email and then gains access.
Recommendation: Use Standard for most marketing partners, Admin only for trusted staff.
After access is granted (Google Ads)
Verify the user’s account appears under Users.
Confirm they can see the intended campaigns but cannot change billing (unless that was intended).
Revoke access via Access and security → select the user → Remove access when no longer needed.
Part B — Facebook (Meta) Ads (step-by-step)
Meta provides two agency-friendly options:
Option A (recommended): Add a partner by Business ID (gives agency access to specific assets).
Option B: Invite people (individual Facebook accounts) and assign them to ad account(s).
You’ll manage this in Meta Business Manager (business.facebook.com).
Step 0 — Confirm you have Business Manager & Admin rights
Go to https://business.facebook.com/ and sign in.
Ensure the ad account you want to share is part of a Business Manager and you have Admin rights for that Business.
Option A — Grant partner access by Business ID (cleanest for agencies)
In Business Manager, open Business settings.
In the left menu, select Users → Partners.
Click Add and choose Give a partner access to your assets.
Enter the partner’s Business ID (they should provide this).
Under Assign assets, select Ad accounts, choose the ad account(s) to share.
Set the role for the partner (e.g., Ad account admin, Advertiser, Analyst).
Click Save.
Why use Partner access: You maintain control of which assets are shared and can easily adjust or revoke access without managing individual user invites.
Option B — Invite a person and assign ad account permissions
In Business settings, go to Users → People.
Click Add and enter the person’s work email (or Facebook-linked email).
Choose Employee access (or Admin access if you need them to manage users).
After adding them, go to Accounts → Ad Accounts. Select the ad account.
Under People, click Assign people and select the user. Choose a role:
Admin — full control.
Advertiser — create and edit ads but not manage access.
Analyst — view reporting only.
Send the invite. The recipient must accept to gain access.
Extra: Assigning Page & Pixel access (Meta)
If ads require your Facebook Page or Pixel, assign those assets in Business settings → Accounts → Pages and Data sources → Pixels.
Go to each asset and add the partner/person with the necessary permissions (e.g., Page roles, Pixel access).
Recommended roles and when to use them
Google Ads
Standard — daily campaign work (recommended for most agencies).
Admin — only trusted personnel for account setup or billing.
Read-only — audits or third-party reporting.
Meta Ads
Advertiser — builds and manages campaigns (most common for agencies).
Ad account admin — full access; use sparingly.
Analyst — reporting only.
Common issues and how to fix them
I don’t see the manager request (Google Ads). Confirm you’re signed into the correct Google account and check Access and security → Managers. Ask the requester to resend.
“Partners” not available (Meta). Ensure the ad account is part of a Business Manager (not a personal ad account), and you have Admin rights.
Invite emails never arrive. Check spam folders, confirm the email address is a Google account (for Google Ads) or a Facebook account (for Meta).
Pixels, catalogs or Pages missing. Make sure those assets are added to your Business Manager and then assign them to the partner/person.
Security & housekeeping checklist
Use least privilege: only grant what’s required.
Require 2-step verification on admin accounts.
Keep a record: who was granted access, when, and why.
Schedule a periodic audit (quarterly) to remove stale access.
Revoke access immediately when a contractor/agency engagement ends.
Use partner/business access (not shared logins) for cleaner management and audit trails.
What agencies or partners commonly ask for (share securely)
Agencies typically request the following so they can work efficiently:
Google Ads Customer ID (10-digit ID) — used for manager link requests.
Meta Business ID — used for partner access requests.
Access to Google Analytics / GA4, Google Tag Manager, and the Facebook Pixel or Conversions API.
Share those identifiers via a secure channel (encrypted email, password manager notes, or a signed NDA if appropriate). Never send passwords.
