Domain Authority (DA) is a search engine ranking score developed by Moz that predicts how well a website will rank on search engine result pages (SERPs). A Domain Authority score ranges from one to 100, with higher scores corresponding to a greater ability to rank.
Then there is also Page Authority (PA). PA is a score developed by Moz that predicts how well a specific page will rank on search engine result pages (SERP). Similarly to DA, PA scores range from one to 100, with higher scores corresponding to a greater ability to rank.
DA is measured by over 40 individual signals which are monitored by Moz, most of which are Moz's own metrics.

MozRank: The number and quality of websites linking to a website measure the aggregate popularity of a web page.
MozTrust: Trustworthiness of websites linking to a page being graded. A higher MozTrust rank is awarded when you link to credible websites such as large companies, established brands, and/or local news websites.
Link Profile: Both internal and external links to and from a website makes up a link profiling. A website that has links to highly reputable sources and is linked to by reputable sources will have a good link profile. The relevancy of your anchor text to the link could also be a factor for a link profile.
As with Google SEO rankings, a page's Domain Authority will fluctuate on a daily basis. You should track it consistently with the DA metrics provided by Moz and should you DA ranking drops, you should evaluate your SEO and fix it soon.
Generally, a brand new domain/website starts off with a low DA of 1 point.
To increase your DA, you should use the Moz DA Guide based on Moz’s proprietary systems as a reference. New websites typically have little to no inbound links and start off their DA with 1 point. On the other hand, websites with a large amount of high-quality inbound links, like Wikipedia, have the highest DA levels of up to 99.
How to Increase my Domain Authority?
Of the over 40 factors Moz uses to measure the value of your website, you should focus on these most important metrics:
Linking Root Domains
This is the number of unique backlinks your website has. If you have got 10 external links from 2 different websites, your effective root domains score is only 2, not 10. Earning a few links from different websites will boost your ranking more than earning many links from the same website.
This is the metric used to score the strength of your website’s external links. Both the number of links that are pointing back to your site, the quality of those links affect your website's MozRank. When it comes to MozRank, quality tends to beat quantity, 1 credible external link is better to have than 5 low-quality links.
MozRank uses a 0-10 scale, with 10 being the highest. The average MozRank rating for a website is a score of 3.
Similar to MozRank, MozTrust is a metric used to help determine the quality of your external links. MozTrust however, is slightly more specific in that it measures how closely your website is connected to trusted websites.
The most trusted websites include .edu or .gov sites.
Even if a .edu or .gov site links to a site that then links to you, it’s considered a sign of trust that helps increase your MozTrust rating, which is also based on a 0-10 rating.
One of the main factors on which a website’s search engine ranking is based on the content quality on your website. The quality of your website’s content is a factor in determining its domain authority. While DA may help improve your search engine ranking, it also correlates closely with it.
Another factor in identifying good quality content is your social signal. Google's algorithm will assume that a piece of content that is shared, liked, and commented on hundreds of times must be of some quality. The same social signals are used by Moz in determining DA.
Search Engine Friendliness
The site structure and user-friendliness of your website affect your DA as well. To improve site structure, you should have a proper sitemap so that usability and navigation on your website will improve. This will make it easier for Google to properly crawl and index your site, which will improve your overall DA.
